Data Privacy

At Kent County Public Schools, we recognize the importance of protecting our students' data, and we are committed to doing everything we can to safeguard their privacy.

We understand that our students' data is sensitive and must be handled with the utmost care. As such, we take a cautious approach to data sharing and only share information with reputable organizations that have demonstrated a clear need for the data and a commitment to protecting it.

The KCPS IT Department takes steps to ensure that these agreements are compliant with relevant laws and regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We also take measures to safeguard our systems and data through the use of firewalls, encryption, and regular monitoring.

We understand that protecting our students' data is an ongoing responsibility and we remain committed to implementing best practices to safeguard their information. We will continue to explore ways to strengthen our data privacy and security practices and work towards developing specific policies and procedures for data sharing agreements in the future.

The majority of the applications that KCPS utilizes are voluntary signatories of the Student Data Privacy Pledge.

For more information and to see which companies have made the pledge, please visit studentprivacypledge.org.

CIPA Compliance

KCPS is committed to providing a safe online environment for our students. As part of this commitment, we want to share important information regarding our compliance with federal laws.

CIPA requires schools and libraries receiving federal E-rate funding to implement internet safety measures.

Our school system has adopted an acceptable use policy that includes content filtering to protect students from harmful or inappropriate online content.

Our content filter utilizes a sophisticated categorization engine.

This engine helps identify harmful content and ensures a safer online experience for our students.

Occasionally, websites may be misclassified. If a teacher identifies any such issue, we encourage them to request a review.

Thank you for your continued support as we prioritize student safety and privacy.
